Call of Duty publisher Activision is no stranger to the topic of pay-to-win items. Throughout the history of Warzone, items ranging from weapon blueprints to Operators that are harder to spot have arguably provided players will to splash some cash with an unfair advantage.

With Season 4 Reloaded for Call of Duty’s free-to-play battle royale nearing, players dropping into the action continue to debate the best weapons to use in Season 4, while a bug has been causing doors to fly uncontrollably around the map.

The latest potential issue with the game involves the subject of pay-to-win items. Although Warzone is completely free, one expert has uncovered a weapon reticle that seemingly provides a significant advantage and is locked behind a paywall.

Warzone pay-to-win weapon reticle

During a recent video, Warzone content creator TrueGameData found a simple blue dot weapon reticle, which is seemingly much easier to use than the default choice.

Infinity Ward decided to remove the ability to customise reticles when Warzone, formerly known as Warzone 2.0, launched in December 2022. As expected, TrueGameData isn’t best pleased with his recent discovery.

The content creator says: “Different holographic options in Warzone 2 all have really bad reticles. They bounce all over the place.” After comparing the blue dot to the default, he says “it’s a nice optic” before revealing it’s worth players purchasing if they’re looking to gain an edge over the competition.

The blue dot reticle in question comes as part of the Throwback Pack: ‘09 Weapon Audio store bundle, which costs 1800 COD Points. On one hand, this seems like a reasonable price for a cosmetic pack but on the other, said pack seemingly contains a potentially game-changing item that shouldn’t provide those that spend money with an advantage.

It’s unclear if Infinity Ward and Raven Software plan on addressing concerns about the reticle, but for now, fans will have to splash the cash if they want to use it.
