Seeing an established character reappear at a later date in the Call of Duty universe isn’t unusual. Modern Warfare 2, for example, saw the immensely popular trio of Captain Price, Ghost, and Soap return, much to the delight of fans dropping into the action.

With Season 4 in full swing and the focus slowly switching towards the launch of Season 4 Reloaded, COD fans have recently debated what makes the game frustrating, while others are demanding an overhaul of a core gameplay feature.

Now, ahead of the mid-season update, an actor from the single-player campaign has potentially teased the return of their character.

Modern Warfare 2 villain teases return

Warren Kole, the actor who plays Shadow Company’s Phillip Graves, has uploaded a photo of himself wearing a motion-capture suit to Instagram, seemingly suggesting Graves is on his way back to the series.

Some community members are excited by the prospect of Kole’s villainous character making a return to the world of Modern Warfare 2, with Twitter user usmchaunsolo exclaiming: “I’m excited that he’s coming back!”

Others are wondering why Graves is reappearing following the events of the campaign. User AndPoblador says: “(I wouldn't be) surprised if he wasn’t even in the tank.” The tank in question is destroyed at the end of the game's campaign and, while this made many players believe Graves had met his demise, the lack of a body may have left open the door for a potential return in the heavily-rumoured Modern Warfare 3.

Is Graves in Modern Warfare 3?

At the time of writing, it’s unclear if Graves will feature in the Modern Warfare 3 campaign. Considering the game is expected to act as a direct continuation of events from Modern Warfare 2, the chances of the Shadow Company leader interfering with Task Force Ghost are seemingly pretty high.

For now though, it appears Graves is likely returning as part of the Season 5 update that’s expected to launch in August.
