Competing in Trials of Osiris is not for the faint of heart in Destiny 2. It is, after all, the toughest PvP activity in the entire game. With Season 21, officially called Season of the Deep, some interesting changes are coming to the mode.

With the May 4th This Week At Bungie blog post, the developers revealed everything fans can expect when Season 21 kicks off on May 23rd.

Without further ado, this is everything coming to Trials of Osiris in Season 21.

Trials of Osiris Season 21 - Schedule

The schedule is one thing that will remain consistent. Trials of Osiris in Season 21 will go live every Friday at weekly reset time (5:00pm GMT) and will leave on Tuesdays at the same time.

As always, the only exception is when Iron Banner is around. The Lord Saladdin mode will show up three times during the season so that'll be three fewer weekends without Trials of Osiris.

Trials Of Osiris Season 21 - Weapons

The weapon pool will change a little bit. Two guns will leave the pool. They'll be available through legacy focusing, but you won't be able to get Adept versions of them:

  • The Inquisitor Shotgun
  • Whistler’s Whim Bow

The two guns that will replace them are:

  • The Messenger Pulse Rifle
  • Unexpected Resurgence Glaive

Trials Of Osiris Season 21 - Quest & Trials Passages

If you're new to Destiny 2 or are just going to jump into Trials of Osiris for the first time, you should note that with Season 21, they'll revamp the new player experience adding easier steps and rewards for completing the introductory quest.

These are:

Step 1

  • Complete your Competitive placement matches (helps to get players introduced to 3v3 and revive game modes in an environment where they will be matched against similarly skilled opponents).
  • Get 50 kills in Competitive.
  • Raise your Power level.

Step 2

  • Pick up a Trials Passage.
  • Play a game of Trials.
  • Win 1 round of Trials.
  • Get 1 elimination in Trials.

Reward: A roll of the Astral Horizon Trials Shotgun!

Trials Passages

Two passages will receive updates as well:

Passage of Wealth

  • Previously granted increased reputation on wins 3, 5, and 7 on a card.
  • This is at odds with a system that wants you to continue playing on a 7-win card to get the most efficient progress and best rewards.
  • In Season 21, this passage will grant +75 Trials rep for every win, along with an additional bonus for your current major rank in Trials, up to +150 total.
  • This encourages players to stay on the same card and take advantage of the system granting more reputation for wins later in the card.

Passage of Mercy

  • In Season 21, this passage will forgive 2 losses if you have not yet been Flawless for the week.
  • After going Flawless if you reset your card, it will revert to forgiving a single loss on each card.
  • This will give all players a better chance of going Flawless for the first time each week, and for those players who can go Flawless without using both Mercies, it will give them additional opportunities to play for extra rewards while their first card remains Flawless.

Trials Of Osiris Season 21 - Modes

The main mode for Trials of Osiris in Season of the Deep will be Dominion.

One of the big reasons is that Bungie wants matches to end faster, and, since elimination-based modes favoured passive play, they've shaken the Trials of Osiris playlists to the core.

On top of getting to the Lighthouse and earning yourself some Adept weapons, which are stronger versions of the regular Trials of Osiris loot pool, there will be some cosmetic rewards this time around.

These are all the rewards you'll be able to redeem:

Finally, there's one more thing, an Emblem that's probably the hardest thing you can achieve in the game. Not only do you have to go Flawless, you must do so without trailing at no point during any of your matches, earning the Flight of the Pigeon after every win.
